How To Setup Progressive Overload

Introduction

Progressive overload is a mandatory approach if you want to keep making gains through your fitness journey. It consists of doing more and more over time, whether you’re adding more weight or more reps, the idea is to do more next time than what you previously did.

Slowly increasing the volume you’re doing over time is one of the keys to getting bigger and stronger.

Exercises tags

Flex Quest has the concept of exercises tags which can be accessed in the “Tags” section near the bottom of the exercise settings page.

We currently offer two tags:

  • #thisexofromthismicro
  • #thisexofromthismeso

They will show you a page similar to the workout page but with the current exercise across the entire micro or meso cycle.

Setup progressive overload

Now that we have tags and you can see all exercises from the same micro/meso cycle on only one page, setting up your progressive overload strategy becomes a lot simpler.

Simply edit your sets to your liking and check the stats to see how numbers look like. Use the “Progressive” category to see their evolution through your weeks of training and make sure the line goes up!

In most fitness apps, all workouts are saved within a near endless list of workouts, so you would have to keep going back and forth between them to access each exercise you have programmed. You would also need to remember the numbers from each set to adjust the numbers of future sets. Well, that doesn’t seem pleasant to do… That is why the use of tags has been a mandatory feature for the Flex Quest team since day one!
